• You have switched to a new number and want to update it in the Aadhaar database

Since online authentications require OTP verification and you don’t have a registered number with UIADI, linking mobile number first time with Aadhaar has to be done offline.

Here are the steps to do it.

• Visit your nearest Aadhaar Registration Centre and get the Aadhar Update/Correction form from there. You can also download and print the form from the UIDAI website.
• Fill in your details and mobile number you want to register and submit it at the centre. If you don’t want any additional updates to your Aadhaar data then mention that only mobile number has to be updated.

• After that the Aadhaar Centre will ask you to verify your biometrics which were recorded when you registered for the Aadhaar Card.

After successful verification you will be given an acknowledgement slip and the mobile number will be linked to your Aadhaar number in 2 to 5 days. The UIDAI website says it takes up to 10 days but normally it doesn’t take that long.

For updating your mobile number listed in the Aadhaar database, the process can be completed online. However, you will need the existing registered number to be working for doing so.

Here is how to do it.

• Visit the UIDAI website and go to the Aadhar Self Service Portal.
• Enter your Aadhaar number and complete the Captcha verification to request an OTP.
• This is important! The OTP will be sent to the number you linked first time with Aadhaar. Once you enter the OTP, you will be redirected to a new page and asked to update the desired details.
• Select the Mobile Number Field and enter the new number you want to link with Aadhaar. Click on submit.
